Chinese Finance Minister Liu Kun has conveyed China’s readiness to offer comprehensive assistance in the implementation of a medium and long-term program aimed at optimizing Sri Lanka’s debt. This commitment was expressed during discussions between President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is on an official four-day visit to China, and the Chinese Finance Minister in Beijing on the morning of the 19th.
Minister Liu Kun expressed China’s understanding of the economic challenges Sri Lanka is currently facing and commended the measures Sri Lanka has taken thus far to address the crisis. He affirmed that China will continue to provide unwavering support for improving the infrastructure crucial for Sri Lanka’s development.
The discussions also delved into the intricate details of financial cooperation between Sri Lanka and China. Minister Liu Kun highlighted that other international organizations collaborating closely with China have been approached to extend their assistance to Sri Lanka.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed deep appreciation for China’s consistent support in Sri Lanka’s strenuous efforts to recover from the economic crisis. The talks also revolved around Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and its plans to establish a competitive digital and green economy.
