Sri Lanka’s Minister of State for Finance, Shehan Semasinghe, expressed confidence in reaching a staff level agreement soon for the disbursement of the second tranche of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Minister Semasinghe highlighted productive discussions held at the 2023 annual meetings in Morocco with representatives from the IMF and the World Bank. During these talks, the focus was on accelerating Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and ensuring long-term sustainability, fostering increased cooperation between the country and international financial bodies.
Echoing this sentiment, State Minister for Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, shared his optimism with the media, stating that Sri Lanka is poised to receive the second tranche from the IMF in the near future. He emphasized the ongoing successful negotiations, raising expectations for a favorable outcome that would bolster the nation’s economic stability and growth prospects.
