    Janaka Ratnayake, the former chairman of the Public Utility Commission, has filed a formal complaint with the Kirulapana Police Station, detailing a chilling death threat and extortion attempt made against him. According to Ratnayake, he received a phone call from a person called Blumandel Sankha, who claimed to have been contracted for 80 lakh rupees to assassinate him. The caller demanded 15 lakh rupees to spare Ratnayake’s life.

    Feeling threatened and alarmed by the details provided, Ratnayake complied with the demand. He handed over the money in front of a private bank located in Kirulapana to two individuals who arrived in a car, as instructed by the caller. Law enforcement agencies, including the Kirulapana Police and the Colombo Crime Division, have initiated a thorough investigation into this disturbing incident. The case highlights the grave nature of the threat faced by public figures and the urgent need for swift action to ensure their safety and security.
