The State and Provincial Public Management Service Officers’ Association has urged the government to consider increasing the salaries of state sector employees in the upcoming budget.
The association highlighted that government employees have not seen a salary increase in the past seven years, while the cost of living has multiplied significantly during this period.
Despite recent circulars imposing new regulations and reducing overtime allowances, the rising cost of living has placed government employees and pensioners in a challenging financial situation.
Mr. NM Wijeratne, President of the Public Management Service Officers Association, emphasized these concerns during the association’s annual branch meeting held in Colombo. The union’s plea underscores the pressing need for fair compensation in light of the ongoing economic crisis.
