A 27-year-old army soldier from Karainagar has been arrested by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau for allegedly defrauding a woman of over 94 lakh rupees. The soldier reportedly claimed to offer lucrative online jobs, convincing the victim to invest.
Investigations revealed that 72 lakh rupees were transferred to three bank accounts belonging to army personnel. The suspect was brought before the Mount Magistrate’s Court and remanded until the 27th following the complaint lodged by the victim.
The arrest highlights the need for caution when engaging in online transactions and job opportunities to prevent falling victim to scams.
