In a move aimed at strengthening the police force, the Inspector General of Police, CD Wickramaratne, has recommended the promotion of five Senior Superintendents of Police as DIGs to the National Police Commission. This recommendation is made after a few officers were promoted as Senior DIGs.
Promotions to Senior Deputy Inspector Generals (Senior DIGs):
- Police Special Task Force Commander Varuna Jayasundara
- Criminal Division In-charge Asanka Karavitha
- Hambantota District DIG Mahesh Senaratne
- Matara District DIG Mahesh Senaratne
Promotions to Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs):
- Director of Police Narcotics Bureau, Samantha Wijesekera
- Senior Superintendent of Police of Colombo South Division, Gayan Marapana
- Superintendent of Police of Badulla Division, Sujith Vedamulla
- Deputy Commanding Officer of Police Special Task Force, Deepthi Hettiarachchi
- Deputy Commanding Officer of Police Special Task Force Athula Ratnayake
These promotions have been approved by the Police Commission, marking a significant step in the advancement of these officers’ careers within the police service. Notably, Sujith Vedamulla, Samantha Wijesekara, and Gayan Marapana have a shared history, having entered the police service together from Badulla and rising through the ranks.
