Government Focuses on Removal of Dangerous Trees in Colombo City

Following a tragic incident where a tree fell on a SLTB bus, resulting in casualties, the Sri Lankan government is taking measures to address the issue of dangerous trees along the roads in Colombo city.

A study will be conducted in the coming week by an expert committee, advised by Minister of State for Defense Pramitha Bandara Thennakone. This committee will assess the condition of trees located along the roads in Colombo.

Additionally, a special discussion on the matter is scheduled for tomorrow, as recommended by President’s Task Force Head Sagala Ratnayake. The discussion will involve experts from the Peradeniya Botanical Garden, plant specialists, and the Director General of the Department of Forestry.

The government’s attention is focused on identifying and removing trees that pose a threat to public safety, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.
