The station commander of the anti-corruption division in Negombo Police has been suspended for fraudulent misappropriation of funds of approximately Rs. 800,000. This incident occurred after a raid on a gambling house in a lodge on Peter Mendes Road, Kudapaduwa, Negombo.
During the raid, a group of officers, including a sub-inspector, arrested six suspects involved in gambling and seized an amount of 440,000 rupees. However, only Rs. 96,500 was recorded in the police books, indicating a discrepancy of Rs. 343,500. Additionally, a person arrested with Rs. 420,000 had the money misplaced after being released.
Following a complaint, a preliminary investigation was conducted, leading to the suspension of the anti-corruption station commander. Authorities are taking necessary actions to address this incident and ensure transparency and accountability within the police force.
