Sri Lankan President Challenges International Investigations Amidst Media Scrutiny

In a recent interview with Germany’s state-owned DW (Deutsche Welle) media agency, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe questioned the need for international investigations into incidents occurring in Asian countries, including Sri Lanka. Addressing inquiries about the Easter Sunday attacks, President Wickramasinghe emphasized that there is no necessity for an international inquiry. He highlighted that comprehensive investigations, involving independent commissions and intelligence services from various nations, have already been conducted.

The President vehemently rejected accusations leveled against the Sri Lankan government, citing media reports such as those by Channel 4 and statements from the Archbishop of Sri Lanka. Moreover, he criticized the United Nations Human Rights Council’s report on the country’s human rights situation, deeming it entirely erroneous.

During the interview, President Wickramasinghe urged foreign journalists to approach discussions with adequate preparation, advising them to set aside Western biases for a more nuanced understanding of the issues at hand. His comments underscore Sri Lanka’s commitment to addressing concerns while challenging international scrutiny, particularly in the context of media representation and global investigations.

Below is the President’s discussion with DW.
