The Senior Superintendent of Police of Tangalle Division has taken action to suspend the Station Commander of the Crime Division at Middeniya Police Station following the escape of a suspect who was arrested with a hand grenade and detained under a summons order.
The suspect, Ishan Madhusankha, a resident of Debokkawa, was arrested during a drug raid conducted by the Embilipitiya Unit of the Police Narcotics Bureau on September 27. After being presented in court, he was detained at the Middeniya Police Station. However, he managed to escape on September 29 while being taken out of the cell by the station commander of the crime division.
As a result, the Station Commander of the Crime Division at Middeniya Police Station has been suspended from duty effective since yesterday.
