The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has announced that a decision regarding the vacant post of General Secretary will be made in the coming days. Mr. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa, the senior vice president of the party, stated that the SLFP’s central committee will convene to appoint a suitable individual to the position of General Secretary in a democratic manner.
Sources within the party have revealed that there is ongoing competition among several senior members for the role of SLFP General Secretary. Despite multiple discussions on the matter, an agreement has not been reached.
Former General Secretary, Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara, was removed from the position earlier, and Sarath Ekanayake, a senior party representative, was appointed as Acting General Secretary. However, legal issues prevented Ekanayake from continuing in the role. Recently, Member of Parliament Dushmantha Mitrapala was appointed to temporarily handle the responsibilities.
The SLFP central committee is scheduled to convene in the coming days to finalize the appointment for the General Secretary post.
