The Association of Health Entomology Officers has reported a rise in the density of dengue mosquito larvae due to heavy rains. Mr. Najith Sumanasena, the chairman of the association, stated that the Breteau index value, which had decreased during dry weather, has now increased. He expressed concerns about a potential surge in dengue cases in the future due to the higher density of mosquito larvae.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, 2500 dengue cases have been reported in this month alone, indicating the urgency of addressing the situation.
