The Puttalam High Court has rendered a verdict, sentencing a police constable to 12 years of hard labor for sexually abusing his 7-year-old daughter, who was just 7 years and 7 months old at the time of the abuse.
The convicted police constable, known as Kumar, was previously stationed at the Anamaduwa Police Station but had been suspended from duty. The disturbing acts of abuse occurred while he was still in active service.
The judgment was delivered by the Puttalam High Court judge, who issued a prison sentence of 12 years with hard labor as well as imposing fines of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 30,000 for each charge against him. Failure to pay the fines will result in an additional 6 months of imprisonment.
Furthermore, the constable has been ordered to provide compensation of 5 lakh rupees to the victimized girl. Failure to fulfill this compensation order will result in an additional year of imprisonment, as per the court’s ruling.
