Yesterday, Sri Lanka rejected all the conclusions and recommendations of the United Nations Human Rights Council (OHCHR) resolution 51/1 on Sri Lanka, including references to targeted sanctions, contained in its High Commissioner’s report.
In the 54th session of the Human Rights Council, Ms. Himali Arunathilaka, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Organization, presented the matter to the Council regarding the stability of the Government of Sri Lanka.
The representative of Sri Lanka pointed out that Sri Lanka rejects all the conclusions and recommendations of the report as they are based on ‘false and unverified sources’, contrary to the principles of natural justice and the principles of universality, impartiality, objectivity and non-selectivity.
She emphasized that the content of that report does not reflect the actual situation at the ground level in Sri Lanka.
The economic, social and financial stability that Sri Lanka has achieved in the past year has been appreciated and recognized locally and externally.
She also pointed out that it is regrettable that the OHCHR has chosen to ignore the democratic resilience of the country and its institutions demonstrated last year, while those with expertise and need to deal with economic and financial reforms are confident about the country’s prospects.
She also emphasized that Sri Lanka strongly opposes any sovereign country issuing written updates on policy matters that are essentially local and outside the framework of this Council.
The 54th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which began yesterday (11) in Geneva, Switzerland, will continue until October 13.
What Sri lanka is this “Hiwali” talking about when she says “”The economic, social and financial stability that Sri Lanka has achieved in the past year has been appreciated and recognized locally and externally.”?
Huh??? Where does does she live? Does she even know any Sri Lankans who havee been to SL in the last year??!!!
