According to the health department, there has been an increase in the number of leprosy cases in the country.
Accordingly, the number of patients reported in the first 7 months of this year is 864 patients.
161 leprosy patients have been found in Colombo area and 47 patients have been reported from Egodawela Health Medical Officer Division alone.
Dr. Prasad Ranaweera, an expert at the Ministry of Health’s leprosy prevention unit, said that the display of leprosy awareness boards will start in the Western Province from next week.
