Thieves have stolen a nearly 300-year-old bell that was on the site of Purana Kanda cave temple located in We-Uda, Hettipola.
Yesterday, the head of the temple complained to the Mawathagama police that this theft took place in the middle of the night on the 5th.
This bell weighs 80 kg. Police say that the person who stole the bell was arrested along with it.
The suspect is a resident of Galagedara Unapataya area. The police say that he is 48 years old.
