The Human Rights Commission has started a special program to promptly investigate over 11,000 complaints made by the people regarding human rights violations.
Its commissioner lawyer Mr. Nimal Punchihewa stated that the complaints will be investigated at the head office and district office level.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that some of the complaints sent to the Human Rights Commission should be sent to other institutions.
Accordingly, the relevant complaints are to be forwarded to the Public Service Commission, Police Commission, Labor Department and Consumer Affairs Authority.
Mr. Nimal Punchihewa, lawyer, also said that he will supervise whether the complaints are properly investigated by the relevant institutions.
He said that justice can be done in cases of violation of people’s human rights by promptly examining all the complaints received.
