Effective from today (02), the Poultry Manufacturers Association has agreed to sell a kilo of chicken with skin at a price of 1250 rupees in supermarkets.
This agreement was reached during a discussion regarding the reduction of the price of chicken and eggs. It was chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera.
All the industrialists who currently produce chicken in our country as well as all the industrialists who produce eggs on a large scale, participated in that discussion.
The Cabinet has approved the import of another 91 million eggs from India to control egg prices.
The minister emphasized that if the price of chicken is not reduced, the government will have to import chicken meat from India to protect the consumers.
If any supermarket is selling at a higher price than that, the industrialists request the consumers to inform Mr. Ajith Weerasinghe of the Poultry Product Manufacturers’ Association by calling 0712732679.
