Power and Energy Minister Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera says that the QR system that has been implemented so far, for the purchase of fuel has been abolished from today (01).
The minister said this at a news conference held today.
Due to the foreign exchange crisis aggravated with the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, only a limited quota of fuel has been issued from fuel filling stations on a weekly basis through a unique QR system for each vehicle owner.
China’s Sinopec has started selling fuel in this country since yesterday.
With permission given to private companies to import, sell and distribute oil to Sri Lanka from oil-producing countries, the government was given the opportunity to take this step by getting relief from the oil crisis in Sri Lanka.
