Professor Sampath Amaratunga, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, says that all the five first-tier universities in Sri Lanka have fallen behind in the world rankings.
According to the latest international university rankings, the universities of Colombo, Peradeniya, Sri Jayawardenepura, Ruhuna, and Moratuwa have fallen in the international classification.
He mentions that by the end of this year, there will be vacancies of about 50 percent of lecturers in the Sri Lankan university system.
He said that even though it is not possible to fill 100% of the lecturer vacancies, it is essential to address the shortage of lecturers at some level.
Therefore, Professor Sampath Amaratunga, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, said that serious concern should be given to the existing situation.
The professor has said this before the COPE committee regarding the progress of Sri Jayawardenepura University.
We had a great fall, what is the way out? People have lost faith in the system, the politicians, and current politics. No investor will step into a country where there is no political stability. Rid the all-powerful Executive Presidential System, rid the hybrid Electoral Syetem.
