As there is a risk of another 5,000 doctors leaving the country, the government should prepare an urgent program to prevent it, the Association of Government Medical Officers has emphasized.
According to Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, its media spokesperson, doctors who have qualified to work in foreign countries are expected to go abroad.
He said that more than 250 doctors who received post-internship appointments have also decided to leave the health service.
“5,000 doctors are 1/4 of the doctors in this country. The seriousness of this problem will increase in the future. What should be done by the Ministry of Health is to immediately implement a necessary program for the group of doctors who have decided to do so by identifying the underlying reasons for this reason.
