The Department of Wildlife Conservation has revealed that there is currently a racket going on to hunt animals coming in search of water due to the drought.
As a result, the Department of Wildlife Conservation has taken steps to increase the number of raids conducted in search of wild animal poachers during the dry season.
The Department of Wildlife Conservation also requests people to inform the 1992 emergency number if they have any information regarding such persons.
The department says that these traffickers hunt wild animals by making wells near dried-up lakes and streams and adding poison to the water.
It has been revealed that wild animals are being hunted in this way to sell to the people coming to Kataragama and to the outside areas and that the meat of animals that die due to poisoning is unfit for human consumption.
