    Emergency purchases to eliminate the shortage of drugs in hospitals

    The Ministry of Health has decided to buy about 160 types of medicines under emergency purchase to avoid the shortage of medicines in hospitals nationwide.

    Dr. Saman Ratnayake, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health said that since it takes about six months to import medicines, it was decided to get them under emergency purchase.

    Mr. Ratnayake said that 65 types of medicines required for cancer have already been ordered and said that the shortage of medicines will be avoided in about two months.
