Minister of State for Finance Shehan Semasinghe says that if benefit payments are delayed to any family unit due to appeals or objections of ‘Aswasuma’ welfare beneficiaries, they will be given both July and August installments at the same time.
He said that the group whose names are included in the ‘Aswasuma’ list will receive their compensation in the month of July.
Among the Samurdhi beneficiaries, 70% of the families who applied for ‘Aswasuma’ benefits are included in the ‘Aswasuma’ beneficiary list, and 20 lakh families will be subsidized by ‘Aswasuma’, exceeding the number of families (1,680,000) which receive the Samurdhi subsidy.
Apart from this, more than 5 lakh people are going to receive disability, kidney and elderly benefits as usual.
Among the Samurdhi beneficiary families, 1,280,747 have applied for ‘Aswasuma’ benefits and 70% of them, 887,653 families are eligible.
Accordingly, 11 lakh families have been identified as eligible to receive subsidies in the ‘Aswasuma’ program.
So far, only the names of the ineligible beneficiaries have been removed. However, if a deserving family has been wronged, steps have been taken to rectify it.
So far, 990,000 appeals and 70,000 objections have been received.
