    A suspended prison sentence for Gania for lying

    The Colombo High Court today sentenced Gania Banister Francis, an officer who worked at the Swiss Embassy in Sri Lanka, who pleaded guilty to the charge of making a false statement to the Criminal Investigation Department in order to use it for future legal proceedings that she had been kidnapped and sexually harassed.

    That is a fine of 5,000 rupees and 02 years imprisonment with hard labour. The court also ordered to suspend the 02-year prison sentence for 05 years.

    This sentence was imposed by Colombo High Court Judge Mr. Namal Bandara Balalle.
