Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian presidential office says.
According to this, President Putin’s spokesman has stated to the media that the Russian leader and the leader of the Wagner mercenary group have discussed the recent rebellion.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, this meeting was held on June 29, five days after the Wagner group launched its campaign.
Peskov told reporters that 35 people had been invited to the meeting, including Yevgeny Prigoshin and the commanders of the Wagner group, and that the meeting lasted about three hours.
“The only thing we can say is that the president gave his assessment of the actions of Wagner’s team during the special military operation in Ukraine and also gave his assessment of the June 24 uprising,” Peskov told reporters.
Here, Peskov told journalists that President Putin listened to the commanders’ own explanations of what happened and also made suggestions for future operations.
Meanwhile, Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko, who intervened to end the Wagner rebellion last Thursday, said that Prigoshin is in Russia. According to that, the western assumptions about the Wagner group were almost totally diverted.
