The government is planning to provide solutions to the existing shortage of teachers and principals in the next few weeks.
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha says that he hopes to start discussions at the provincial level regarding teacher transfers.
“We know very well that there is a shortage of teachers. There is also a shortage of principals. We need to recruit 26,000 teachers. There are also Tamil teachers among them. There are also Sinhala teachers.
We will finish the court cases in the next few weeks and start recruiting teachers to train these teachers as soon as possible. On the other hand, a trade union has negotiated a teacher transfer. We are going to make a method suitable for those provinces.”
