IAEA approves release of Fukushima radioactive water into sea

Japan’s Nikkei newspaper reports that Japan hopes to release radioactive water from the earthquake-ravaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea in August.

Thus, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has approved the release of this radioactive water into the sea. In this regard, the International Atomic Energy Agency stated that a two-year review showed that Japan’s plans to release water were consistent with global safety.

In the year 2011, the Fukushima plant was severely damaged by the severe earthquake that affected Japan. There, water was used extensively to cool the affected nuclear reactors.

The Japanese government announced last January that it plans to release the radioactive water into the ocean from spring to summer.

With the approval of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that his country is looking forward to getting international and local recognition of the release of the relevant water into the ocean.

Although Japan has long claimed that it has purified this radioactive water, Japanese fishermen’s associations have expressed their opposition to the release of this water. There, the associations have pointed out that several countries have damaged their reputation by banning Japanese fishing products due to the fear of being affected by radiation.

Meanwhile, countries close to Japan have expressed their strong displeasure to this action. There, China has expressed great opposition to the release of this water, and China has continuously expressed its concern regarding the possible environmental and health problems there.
