An officer of the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo, who was transferred for disciplinary reasons, cancelled the transfer using political powers and returned to the hospital, the employees alleged.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Health had taken steps to transfer the officer to the Colombo Eye Hospital and conduct an investigation on the incident of missing 20 towels and 7 pillows received as gifts to the Children’s Hospital.
However, due to the strong influence of a political and trade union leader, the health secretary has had to cancel the transfer of the officer, and the hospital employees say that his return to the children’s hospital will hinder the investigations.
Hospital employees also say that the officer has been accused of corruption and fraud.
