    Warrants for Wimal

Colombo Magistrate Prasanna de Alwis today (19) issued warrants against MP Wimal Weerawansa for not appearing in the case against blocking the road when UN High Commissioner Prince Said Al Hussein visited the country in 2016.

Another defendant in this case, former Member of Parliament Weerakumara Dissanayake, also did not appear before the court. But the lawyer appearing for him presented a medical report to the court. The other defendants in this case, former members of parliament, Mohammad Mussammil, Jayantha Samaraweera, Piyasiri Wijenayake, and a member of the Provincial Council, Mr. Roger Seneviratne, appeared before the court.

In 2016, during the visit of the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Prince Said Al Hussain to Sri Lanka, Mr. Wimal Weerawansa and others have been accused of causing public oppression by blocking the roads and protesting in front of the United Nations office in Colombo.

Mr. Wimal Weerawansa is named as the first defendant in this case.
