A principal dies due to a substandard vaccine

According to the sources of Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, a female principal died today due to a substandard anesthetic injection while undergoing surgery due to a hernia condition.

Last April, the principal was admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital due to a hernia condition, where she was given an anesthetic injection before undergoing the operation. So she was treated in the intensive care unit for more than two months due to an after-effect of the injection, said Dr. Arjuna Thilakaratne, director of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

The director of the hospital said that the vaccine was also given to a pregnant mother who was admitted for her delivery in April, and after her death, the use of the vaccine was banned by the Ministry of Health.

The director of the hospital also said that about 5 days before the vaccine was banned, the same anesthetic vaccine had been given to this principal, and she also became critical and died today.

However, he said that after the Ministry of Health banned the vaccine, the vaccine was removed from the hospital.

A 59-year-old mother of two, A.G. Karunawathi, who worked as the principal of Maussava Junior College in Kandy, died after being given a substandard anesthetic injection.
