While the Ministry of Education has ordered that teachers who have received formal transfers must report to their new workplaces today (12), it is reported that more teachers of popular schools in Colombo have violated the order.
Although the teachers have been transferred through the formal transfer boards, the principals of the popular schools are keeping the teachers in the school instead of allowing them to transfer and the teachers who are expected to come to those schools are missing out on the opportunity.
The Ceylon Teachers Association alleges that the Minister of Education had earlier informed the new workplaces to report today and the Secretary of Education had also given such notification on two occasions.
The Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union Mr. Joseph Stalin said that the Ministry of Education does not have a program to formally carry out transfers in national schools.
