Despite the shortage of doctors, new appointments are delayed

The Government Medical Officers’ Association has alleged that the Ministry of Health is delaying the grant of internship appointments despite the acute shortage of doctors in hospitals across the country.

Dr. Haritha Aluthge, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association, says that there has been a continuous delay in giving internship appointments to doctors who have completed their qualifications from medical schools after passing the GCE Advanced Level in 2014.

Mr. Aluthge said that if appointments are not given to those doctors very soon, strict measures will be taken after the 19th of this month.
