A proposal to cancel the nomination of the local government elections

It has been proposed to submit a proposal to the Parliament to cancel the nominations of the local government elections.

It was in the State Administration and Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry Advisory Committee that was held recently.

The committee meeting was held in Parliament recently under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister in charge of Local Government.

Several councilors who participated in the advisory committee of the ministry have submitted the relevant proposal.

State Minister Mr. Janaka Wakkambura stated that all the party and opposition MPs who participated in the Advisory Committee at that time expressed their agreement.

They have pointed out that even though an election has been announced, the further work of the local government bodies will be severely affected by the continued delay of the election.

The State Minister further said that neither his ministry nor the government has taken any final decision regarding the submission of such a proposal.
