Sri Lankan cricketer Dhanushka Gunathilaka will have to stand trial on charges of rape due to the alleged incident that took place in Sydney while he was in Australia to play in the Twenty20 World Cup last year, according to local reports.
32-year-old Dhanushka Gunathilaka was banned from cricket by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) immediately after he was arrested in Australia last November in connection with this incident.
Later case has been filed case against him by the woman related to the incident and three of the four sexual assault charges against him had been dropped in that trial last month.
Australian media reported that Dhanushka entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of sexual intercourse without consent, which is the remaining charge against Dhanushka, when the case was heard in a local court in Sydney today.
According to Dhanushka’s attempt to change his bail conditions, he will have to report to the police only three times a week instead of daily, media reports in Australia have said.
