The government has decided to increase the current SLTB school season ticket fee by around 25%.
The Minister of Transport Dr. Bandula Gunawardena says that a proposal has also been submitted regarding the increase of these fees.
The minister says that the student program has incurred a very high cost.
He pointed out that currently, 1/3 of the season ticket fee of school children should be borne by parents, and the remaining 2/3 would be borne by the government.
The Minister said that it is necessary to decide whether to eliminate the school transport buses or continue to run them. The Minister also said that in order to run them, the ticket fee will have to be increased.
