Parliament went silent for a minute

Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage has issued an injunction preventing a group of protesters from entering several places who came to commemorate the events of May 09 last year.

Accordingly, the protesters are prohibited from entering the Presidential Palace, the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Finance and the Temple Trees.

The Magistrate had issued the order after considering a request made by the Kollupitiya Police.

Meanwhile, a minute’s silence has been observed in Parliament today (09).

It is in memory of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s Polonnaruwa District Member of Parliament Mr. Amarakirthi Athukorala who was killed in the rioting incident that took place on May 09 last year.

This commemoration has been done according to a request made by Member of Parliament Nimal Lanza.
