    200 for Nishan and 150 for Kusal – Sri Lanka’s records are renewed

    Sri Lanka’s Nishan Madushka, who is playing the first innings of the second and final Test against the touring Irish team in Galle, scored his maiden double century today (27) and Kusal Mendis, who is playing unbeaten on the field with him, has now crossed the 150-run mark.

    The match, which was abandoned at 3.43 pm yesterday due to the bad weather, and started today on time for the fourth day. When the match started today, Sri Lanka’s scoreboard was recorded as 357/1, out of which 149 runs were scored by Nishan Mudushka and 83 runs by Kusal Mendis.

    In the opening over of the fourth day, Nishan Madushka crossed his 150-run mark. After that, Kusal and Nishan raised their team’s score by building a record partnership of more than 200 runs while defending the wicket.

    Accordingly, Kusal Mendis scored his century on the fourth ball of the eighty-eighth over of the Sri Lankan innings and scored his 150 runs by hitting a six off the first ball of the 106th over.

    Nishan Madushka scored his maiden double century by hitting 4 off the last ball of the one hundred and eleventh over of the innings. Along with that, Nishan Madushka joined the Sri Lankan cricket record books and became the second player after Brendan Kuruppu in 1987 to make his debut century a double century.

    Also, this is the first time that all three opening batsmen of the Sri Lankan team have scored centuries in a Test innings. At present, Nishan Madhushka and Kusal Mendis are unbeaten on 202 runs and 160 runs.
