    The intense heat slowly decreases

Director General of the Department of Meteorology Mr. Athula Karunanayake says that the extremely hot conditions prevailing these days are gradually decreasing.

He also says that this situation will disappear after the May 20th when the south-west monsoon is active.

He said this while participating in a special press conference held at the Government Information Department today (26).

He pointed out that these conditions are caused due to the global climate change, and he pointed out that because the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere is at a high level, the release of thermal energy in the atmosphere is blocked and the hot condition is present.

He also said that as the water vapor gradually decreases with the rain, the hot condition will disappear.

Until this situation subsides, he requests the people to wear light clothes, not to engage in strenuous work and to drink more water.

He also emphasized that children and people over the age of 50 should avoid hanging out in the open and should not drink soft drinks during the period from 11 am to 4 pm.

He said that in the future, as there will be rain or thundershowers in some parts of the island in the evening or at night, this extremely hot situation will disappear in the future.
