All parties of the opposition agreed to form a new alliance under the leadership of opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa, said the chief organizer of the opposition, MP lawyer Lakshman Kiriella.
He said this while speaking to the media after the relevant discussion held at the Parliament premises yesterday.
Mr. Lakshman Kiriella, the chief organizer of the opposition, who spoke further, said:
“A discussion was held today with the leaders of all the opposition parties under the chairmanship of Mr. Sajith Premadasa. It was agreed to organize a campaign to oppose the upcoming repressive bills. Today we discussed a massive opposition coalition under the leadership of Mr. Sajith Premadasa. All the political parties in the opposition came today. The leaders of those parties participated.
All parties agreed one hundred percent. There are also people who are separated from the SLPP party. We have been told to be in the opposition. The people who voted for us did not give the mandate to form a joint government. That is why we are in the opposition. “This alliance will last until the next presidential election,” he said.
