Operations in District General Hospital in Embilipitiya have been stopped – ICU is closed

Due to the lack of anesthetists at Embilipitiya District General Hospital, the intensive care unit of the hospital has been closed for several days and operations have been completely stopped.

It is reported that one of the two anesthetists who worked at the Embilipitiya District General Hospital has gone to work abroad, and the other specialist is going for training abroad.

The hospital director, Dr. R. A. M. W. S. Bandara, has notified the Regional Director of Health Services that Embilipitiya Hospital is currently unable to accommodate patients in need of urgent surgery or admission to the Intensive Care Unit. As a result, the hospital is advising against transferring such patients to Embilipitiya Hospital until further notice.

It is also reported that patients in the intensive care unit receiving treatment at Embilipitiya Hospital have been sent to Rathnapura, Hambantota, Karapitiya, and Matara hospitals, and a pregnant mother who was supposed to have a cesarean section has also been transferred to another hospital.
