“New Year in Paradise 2023” organized to provide New Year experiences to foreign tourists was held today (15) at Unawatuna beach under the chairmanship of Minister Manusha Nanayakkara.
The purpose of this New Year festival is to provide foreign tourists visiting the country with the experience of local cultural aspects associated with the New Year.
The New Year festival was decorated with many New Year cultural elements and the New Year dining table reserved for foreign tourists attracted the tourists.
Many competitions were organized for the foreigners like ‘Kana Muttiya Bindeema’, ‘eyeing the elephant’, ‘climbing the slippery tree’, choosing the Awurudu Kumara and Kumari and cultural elements with local dances and drumming were also included.
A sandcastle-making competition on the beach held for young children impressed many.
A village kitchen with local delicacies was also added for the New Year celebration to give tourists a live experience of preparing local food.
This year’s event was organized under the guidance of the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Promotion Authority.
