Police information revealed that 04 murders have taken place across the country with the New Year.
These 04 murders have been reported from Seeduwa, Ahungalla, Medagama and Eraur police domains.
The murders of Seeduwa and Ahungalla happened with gunfire.
The shooting in Seeduwa took place on New Year’s night. A 45-year-old resident of Seeduwa Rajapaksapura was killed here.
The police said that the killing was the result of a dispute between two parties.
The shooting was done with a pistol and the shooter is a retired army soldier. Police say he was arrested.
The shooting in Ahungalle took place in Middaramulla area of Ahungalle.
Police say that Tharidu Nisansala de Silva (29), a resident of Ahungalla Makumbura Amaramoli Mawatha, was riding a motorcycle with his sister’s two children when he was shot at on New Year day.
He was shot in the head by two people on a motorcycle. A T56 weapon was used for this murder.
The lives of the two children were not harmed and they were injured when the motorcycle fell on the ground.
Eraur’s victim was killed by striking the head with an axe. A person named S. Devendran (38) has been killed. The murder took place on Thalavai Sinnathambi Road.
The suspect in this murder is a 28-year-old resident of Chenkaladi area. The investigation has revealed that the murder was done because of a joke made by the murdered person to the father of the suspect.
The fourth murder of the new year is reported from Medagama Kotabowa Dimbuldena area.
A Medagama resident named Sunil Ratnayake has been murdered. He is 47 years old. He was stabbed to death due to a personal dispute. He was stabbed by also a resident of the same area. Police say that he is currently injured and hospitalized.
