Finland officially joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) today.
Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Havisto completed the process of joining the organization today by handing over an official document to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
Accordingly, Russia has managed to take the Cold War with the West to a new dimension, which has developed with the invasion of Ukraine.
Finland’s accession to NATO has doubled the length of NATO’s border shared with Russia overnight, creating leverage over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg officially admitted Finland to NATO, saying Russian President Vladimir Putin’s opposition to NATO expansion was used as justification for his invasion of Ukraine.
“The exact opposite of Putin is happening today. “Today, Finland has become a NATO member, and soon Sweden will also be a full member of NATO,” Stoltenberg said in Brussels.
In this regard, the Kremlin said that Russia would have to take “counter-measures” to enter Finland. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the move could further escalate the conflict in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said NATO expansion was “an encroachment on our security and Russia’s national interests.” He said Moscow would closely monitor any deployment of NATO forces in Finland.
