The utility commission says that they will not approve any power cut until next February 17, when the A/L examination is being held.
The commission announced that such power cuts during this period will be considered unauthorized and illegal.
The commission also informs that this decision was taken to protect the rights of more than 331,000 students appearing for the A/L examination.
Due to the lack of expected rainfall, the Water Management Secretariat has restricted the release of water from the reservoirs for hydropower generation.
Therefore, the Ceylon Electricity Board requested permission from the Public Utilities Commission to cut off electricity for a period of 2 hours and 20 minutes today and tomorrow.
