The National Investigation Agency of India has taken into custody 09 strongmen of Sri Lanka’s underworld, including Kimbula Ela Guna, who was kept in a detention camp in Tamil Nadu for allegedly engaging in weapon smuggling to revive the LTTE in India.
The Indian National Investigation Agency has taken over the 09 underworld criminals including Sinnaiah Gunasekaran aka. Kimbula Ela Guna, Alahapperamage Sunil Gamini Fonseka aka. Kotagamini, Stanley Kennedy Fernando aka. Bumma, Dinamulla Kankanamlage Nalin Chaturanga aka. Athugiriya Ladiya, Keselwaththe Dhanuka, Gamage Suranga Fernando aka. Walle Suranga, Sinnaiah Dileepan Pushparaja (Son of Kimubula Ela Guna) aka. Pukudikanna, and Mohommad Azmin.
In the last week of January 2021 and in February 2021, this group, including Kimbula Ela Guna was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police in a series of raids.
Four people including Kimbula Ela Guna, and his son – Pukudikanna, are arrested while going to the airport from Chennai to Delhi.
The Coimbatore police arrested the Athurugiriye Ladiya during an investigation by the local police after the murder of Angoda Lokka.
Kimbula Ela Guna is a person who has been in contact with the LTTE for a long time and is also involved in drug trafficking on a large scale. He is the leader of a gang operating around the Modara Kimbula Ela. He is also a suspect in the suicide bomb attack on the final rally of the 1999 presidential election at Purahala when Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was the president. It was said that Kimbula Ela Guna sheltered the bomber who came to that attack.

In 2017, Athurugriya Ladiya killed 7 people including a leader of the underworld gang Kaduwela Samayang, after attacking a prison bus in Ethanamadala, Kalutara.

It had been revealed that the killing of Amba Shana, the president of Peliyagoda Manin Market’s Fruit Association, was also done according to his contract.
