General Secretary of the All Ceylon Medical Officers’ Association Dr. Jayantha Bandara said that due to the lack of essential human and physical resources, the maintenance of the health service has become a serious crisis.
He also mentioned that due to the severe shortage of doctors, nurses, paramedics, interim doctors and junior staff in hospitals and health centers across the country, it has not been possible to maintain the health service properly.
In addition, Dr. Bandara said that due to the acute shortage of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and clinical reagents, treatments are often delayed or do not received for the patients.
He also mentioned that as a result of this, many problems have arisen such as the worsening of the disease condition, the increase in the number of deaths, the patients having to stay in the hospital for a longer period of time, as a result of which the family’s economy is facing problems.
Dr. Bandara also said that if the government does not intervene sufficiently to change this situation, the collapse of the health service nationwide cannot be stopped.
