A boat carrying eight people who went rowing in Suriyawewa Mahaweli Kada Ara Lake capsized in the middle of the lake this morning.
05 people who drowned in this accident were rescued by local residents and 03 female children between the ages of 10 and 18 are missing after drowning, police said.
Navy divers have launched an operation with the help of local residents to find the three children.
Victims are Kurunegala Pihimbuwa residents. Suriyawewa had come to participate in a charity dinner held at a relative’s house and the accident happened while riding a small boat used for fishing. The police say that only two people can travel in this boat.
