The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Hanaa Singer Hamdy, today accepted a petition presented by protesters who had gathered outside the United Nations premises in Colombo.
Anti-government demonstrators had started a satyagraha today in front of the United Nations office in Colombo against the arrest of student activist Wasantha Mudalige and against the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
When the protest was going on, Mrs. Hanaa Singer came near the gate and got out of her vehicle and spoke to the crowd.
She said there that she has no objection to the protest as long as it is peaceful.
