    “Money has been allocated – Provide immediate relief to those affected by the rain” – President

    President Ranil Wickramasinghe instructed all district secretaries to quickly coordinate relief work for those affected by the bad weather conditions with the help of the Disaster Management Center.

    The President advised the officials that all necessary provisions have been allocated through the Ministry of Finance and that all facilities including food and medicines needed by the affected people should be promptly provided and special attention should be paid to the sanitary facilities of the people.

    President Ranil Wickramasinghe has further instructed the district secretaries to work in coordination with all divisional secretaries and linear ministries and to get the support of government officials and the armed forces in the relief program.

    Disaster Management Center said in the report released on October 16, 2022, that 15,404 families in 52 Divisional Secretariat Divisions have been affected due to strong winds, landslides and floods that affected 11 districts namely Trincomalee, Hambantota, Galle, Kilinochchi, Kalutara, Gampaha, Colombo, Puttalam, Ratnapura, Kandy and Kegalle.

    Due to the prevailing bad weather conditions, 03 casualties are reported across the island and two people are injured. It has been stated in the report that 05 houses were completely damaged and 193 houses were partially damaged.

    It states that 1,927 people from 439 families affected by bad weather conditions are being held in 21 safe centers across the island.
